ITVContinuingDramas:PositiveProgressonDirectorFees

Published on: 18 August 2026

Directors UK welcomes a recent proposal from ITV Studios to increase fees for directors working on its continuing dramas, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

The proposal follows discussions between Directors UK and ITV regarding the challenges facing directors in a changing production environment. While pressures on budgets and earnings have been felt across the industry in recent years, directors on continuing dramas have faced some particular challenges as production patterns have evolved.

Throughout our discussions, we highlighted the importance of ensuring that director fees continue to keep pace with the cost of living and reflect the value directors bring to these flagship productions. ITV engaged constructively with those concerns and returned with an improved proposal following initial discussions.

Although fee levels have not kept pace with inflation over the longer term, a reality reflected across much of the television industry, this latest development represents a welcome step in the right direction. Directors UK is pleased to see ITV taking a positive approach and demonstrating its commitment to recognising the contribution directors make to the success of its continuing dramas.

We will continue to work with ITV and other employers across the sector to support sustainable careers for directors and to ensure that director pay remains an important part of industry discussions.
