Directors UK has just distributed £3.5m to 3,326 Directors UK members for the use of their work internationally.

This payment covers 57,012 titles representing 10,121,153 minutes of airtime across film and television, on 617 channels around the world.

As part of Directors UK’s remit as a Collective Management Organisation (CMO), we distribute rights payments to members whose work has been shown in certain overseas territories.

Throughout parts of Europe and in several other countries, film and television directors are legally recognised as being authors of their work. This means that directors can be rewarded for certain uses of their work, such as cable retransmission, private copying and video rental, depending on the legislation in that country.

These payments are administered through the international network of authors’ CMOs and paid out to members by us.

To join Directors UK and receive rights payments you need to have a principal director credit on a broadcast UK television programme, or a commercially distributed and screened feature film, which is eligible under our distribution schemes.
