The BBC’s Royal Charter — which defines the organisation’s Mission, Public Purposes and governance — is up for renewal at the end of 2027.
The DCMS is currently holding a public consultation to help shape the terms of the BBC for the next charter.
The BBC’s charter is only renewed once every ten years, which makes this a critical opportunity to share your views and feed into the foundations and future of our national broadcaster.
We’re providing a response which represents our members and highlights the importance of an independent and sustainably funded BBC, their role in improving workplace standards and diversity and inclusion, growing production opportunities across the country, skills and workforce development, AI transparency, and more.
But the BBC needs to hear from a wide range of voices, and we encourage you to submit your own personal response.
This review comes at a critical time for both the BBC and the creative industries in general, and your experiences as a director – the creator of programmes that entertain and inform the country – are something the BBC and wider industry can’t afford to overlook.
Please help advocate for directors by completing the survey, and encouraging your peers to do the same. The survey closes on Tuesday 10 March.
